Just smoke and mirror by Lagoon, trying to silence Collin. I consider his comments reasonable, not aggressive but also not defending shoddy workmanship.
But it's clear if the french guys swallow this pill and invite him that it must have hurt them quite a bit.
Good news!! Maybe it will make them build better
boats in the end.
To my uneducated eyes this
repair kit is just some
plywood held together by glue and a
stainless steel clamp. Following Lagoon's
repair instructions ( i.e. not removing the trim) it is impossible to ensure a good fit of the
parts so it's uncertain if the glue will even stick to both sides.
My own confidence in this fix would be close to 0. It's a bandaid, applied in the cheapest way. Lagoon is not trying to do things right but they are trying to get out of the bad news quickly with as little effort as possible.
It reminds me of the Escape
Hatch fiasko. FP replaced all
escape hatches while Lagoon sent two aluminium brackets and a few screws. What a joke.
While this particular bulkhead issue is IMO a design problem, Lagoon has enough manufacturing issues around bulkheads, spawning all models of the last 2 decades AFAIK.
I have recently visited a 2019
Lagoon 380, one of the last ones built. She has done a simple atlantic circle and what is the result:
All (furniture) bulkheads that were glued in place had the glue cracked and were a few mm dislocated, including the
salon bulkhead (the one with the sliding door).
Of those bulkheads glassed in place at least one (the front one taking the
mast loads) was in need of re-tabbing as the glass tabbing had separated from the
hull on one side.
The boat was noisy even while moored, as soon as a
dinghy passed it would squeak badly.
Some Brand-loyal owner said on FB his boat needed "bulkhead maintenance".
