Lagoon 46 vs leopard 45

We are new to the catamaran world and would love to hear everyone’s opinions between these two boats. What would you choose and why. Thanks so much.

Re: Lagoon 46 vs leopard 45

The Lagoon 46 has a proper fly-bridge, I don't like sun lounges where boom can hit some dill that decides to stand up at the wrong moment. Other than that it comes to personal preferences about internal lay-out. Performance wise on paper the Lagoon has 2.5ft more waterline and about 100sqft more sail area and 2ft more beam for same displacement. So slightly more stable and slightly quicker. Load carrying capacity of the Leopard is 4.6T and the Lagoon (for Cat A) is 7T

The Lagoon is a bigger boat.

Re: Lagoon 46 vs leopard 45

We recently did a lot of work on Leopard 45 and sailed a bit. I was on L 46 but didnt sailed. Leopard is a quite good boat in terms of build quality, probably a bit better than Lagoon. She also sailed pretty well beyond my expectation. Lagoon has more space more lockers. They both have similar semi elevated helm station. Pricewise, Ithink Lagoon costs a bit more. In summary quite similar boats.

Cheers

I have sailed both and much perfered the Leopard sail plan. Also the fore lounge was much nicer. Except for a limited time on the upper bridge deck lounge they came out about the same interior.

Re: Lagoon 46 vs leopard 45

I've been aboard both quite a few times but not sailed either (but have their predecessors). I'd go with the Leopard personally. Both of these cats are built to a price point, so as long as you keep this in mind and not nitpick too much, they make very nice choices.

I prefer the elevated helm and forward cockpit arrangement significantly over the Lagoon. The boom being 10' off the roof and having to helm from the flybridge on passages is a non-starter for me. Now if you are just island hopping in the Bahamas or Caribbean, then I would even more suggest going with the forward cockpit, but I could understand choosing the flybridge.

Go charter each for a week or two, that will be money well spent!
