Re: Island Spirit 401 talk to me
I suggest you go here Caribbean Charter Sailing,Sailing Vacations, Caribbean vacations. and contact the website owner. He has owned a couple of Island Spirits including, I think, a 401 and he is probably the most knowledgable Island Spirit person around . He is out sailing in the Caribbean right now and I don't think he is a member here so you'll have to contact him.

Re: Island Spirit 401 Talk To Me
Perhaps I can help? I designed the Island Spirit and have been following the recent builder debacle as a concerned party.
Do you need specifics of the boat (it isn't being built currently) or are you in the second-hand market. The design is quite old now (1980's) and it has been superseded by the Maverick 400.
cheers

Re: Island Spirit 401 - Talk to Me
The Maverick is the lottery boat but the Island Spirit although as you state an older design, I consider one of the best within my budget restraints. Wondering if you could comment on the feasibility at a reasonable cost of modifying one hull in a 4 cabin layout to a semi owner’s configuration of head with separate shower stall plus small utility area?

Re: Island Spirit 401 - Talk to Me
Hi Cameron, I know some of the Island spirits have this arrangement so it is very possible. Did you want a new one - I know of some hull, deck & bulkhead boats around in SA. Otherwise it is quite a lot of work.

Hi
We have an owners version Island Spirit. Launched in 2008, owner captain never chartered.
What do you want to know?

Re: Island Spirit 401 - Talk to Me
I have found one. However i need to move it 1800km. The cost is horrendous, if I move it in one piece. I am thinking of cutting it in half or into 3 pieces
1: Down the middle but missing the door and seats hatches. A little zigzag.
2: Down the two sides. Sepperate the two hulls from the Bridge deck.
Then Glass it all back together.
Any advise

Re: Island Spirit 401 - Talk to Me
Reviving an oooolld thread. Anyone still cruising in a 401? It seemed the owners were generally happy with these vessels. Does the boat still hold up these years later?

Owned a 1999 37 IS Charter version and currently a 2006 401 Owners version.
They have both held up very well in my opinion. My first IS I sold and it is in the same marina as I am now and they are very happy with it also.
No known major issues on either.
