improving engine access in a Leopard

In my new-to-me Leopard 47 the stb engine access under the bed is big enough to easily work on the engine and do what needs doing. Mind you dragging the mattress off is less fun than a root canal but it is possible.

The port engine on the other hand requires master's level boat yoga and the under bed access is not big enough to even check the oil.

The question:
Is there any reason to not expand the port under mattress access to match the stb side? I don't want to endanger the structural integrity which seems unlikely but I am not going to pretend to know more than the designers of the boat.

Thank you in advance for your thoughts
