Import Duty Mexico

Total noob here, sorry. I have been searching a bit on Google and have seen info on temporary import permit to Mexico, but my plan is to buy a boat in Mexico. I'd like to flag it in Mexico so i could put the boat to work. Would i need residency in Mexico to do that? Could i get around that by setting up a Ltd company? or a business partner that is a Mexican National? I would ideally like to set things up myself.

Either way my goal would be to set up sunset cruises and day sails. I do have a business partner that is a Mexican National, and they already own a dive company. I am aware of the risks of getting into business with a foreigner.

I don't have a clue about buying and paying duties on a boat. Any links to further reading or advice would be appreciated.

Re: Import Duty Mexico

I have found this info for importation to the USA:

The costs involved with an import on the vessel are as follows.

1.Duty 1.5% X the value
2.Merchandise processing tax .3464% X value w/ a cap of $497.99
3.Import bond – Approximate Fee $500 – (Will Vary between Customs Agent)
4.Harbor maintenance tax .00125 X value (if arriving as cargo and importing)
5.EPA filing $75.00
6. Miscellaneous Customs Fees assessed by Customs Agent – $400

Are the fees similar to Mexico importation? any links ?

Re: Import Duty Mexico

Perhaps your friends in the Dive business can reccomend a Mexican abagado who can advise you on the best way to proceed with your venture. You are looking for very specific legal advise and laws change frequently (especailly when it comes to managing extranjeros).
