Hull Extensions: Update boat registration needed?

Hi all,

In the search of a catamaran i am detailed checking, testsailing and then surveying a 43ft one off cat monday till wednesday.
It was professionally build by a well known cat builder based on John Cross 39ft Design/Plans which was extended in the middle area by 4ft during production using the hull plans from a 43ft John Cross fastback.definitley a good move as its very fast even in light Wind and the fastback hulls are known to work well.

As the 39ft Plans and registration used, the registration certification and papers provided state its 10,85m or 39ft long. All other serial Numbers of hull and engines fits. measuring at my first viewing confirms it is 13.1m=43ft long as Plans, cat builder and owner state. They all say that this is very handy as you get billed for cheaper below 40ft length and there is nothing illegal about it Not to update registration certificate and papers.

Is that true there is no need or obligation to get this extra 4ft registered?

Depends on what you mean by "billed" and "registered".


If you are signing a document where you are certifying that the boats is 39ft LOA when you know it is 43ft LOA, you are knowingly making a false declaration. That is frequently illegal.

I am with you on that but I don't declare it 39ft, the spanish registration authorities do

Boat is freshly certified due to a major refit in 2019 and official authorities know its 43ft LOA as in the plans showed to them (as it also got a commercial charter licence/transport licence for 14 people upgraded/renewed were also 39ft is stated) but still on boat registration it says 10,85m which is 39ft.

Sure! Why not? Can register in Michigan as a pontoon boat. $33 for 3 years. You measure the deck length between hulls for that rego. Very handy as always much shorter than LOA!

was John Gross but he would rotate in his grave if he'd seen what they made out of his plans...
And best was 20kn winds with guest to 30kn, sunshine and 2m waves near Valcencia and the owner refused to go out to do a testsail, its not safe.
Yes his ****ing lemon was not safe

As shadee as the registration was the whole boat, a real lemon.

Fotos, Info..everthing was faked and fotoshoped...
Thank you for spending 600Euro to look at wrecked lemon...
