Gunboat 60 vs. Catana 59!!!

Peter hates when I open these discussions, however, when you're close to the finishing line / decision point, you just can't ask enough. So here comes the question, Gunboat 60 vs. Catana 59? Prices seem to be close to each other (or at least compared to other alternates!), GB offers tremendous speed while C59 offers great space and still respectable speed! Ladies and gentlemen, start your engines!

Gunboat!!! we fix 2 weeks ago lots of rigging bugs in a 6 months old catana 60. Carbon fiber all the way, my 2 cents.

Never liked the saloon layout of the Tag and as for the rapier goes, have they built one yet?

Re: Gunboat 60 vs. Catana 59!!!

There's an Atlantic crossing video of a Catana 90, similar rigging problems on that one , shrouds are located way back, they keep chafing the mainsail during downwind passages... However, the cabin layout of the 59 is still great.

Re: Gunboat 60 vs. Catana 59!!!

Well, at those prices, it's not a big problem to make a boat of this size go fast. The problem is to know what works and what doesn't, which is something that you can learn only from past experience...

Never liked the "slot berth" positioning, not even on the old GB's, so African Cat does not appeal.

Re: Gunboat 60 vs. Catana 59!!!

Gunboat from the very beginning, however, Peter is quite hard with the price!

As a matter of fact, the real decision right now is to go with a floating gin palace for the whole family or Gunboat, still for the whole family, yet even more fun for me!

I'm also quite curious about the G7...

Do you have any details on bringing the GB60 production to the US?

If any boat could get me into a catamaran, it would be that Gunboat.

Just don't load it down with all kinds of carp. You will have to work hard to keep the weight out of it.

LOL dockie........... I got into catamarans with a Catalac....... Gunboats are just the 20 knot version of an amazing configuration.......

Re: Gunboat 60 vs. Catana 59!!!

As far as I know, they've already moved the whole production to Wachanese, but I may be wrong.

The problem with the Gunboat is not that it's not loaded with toys, it surely is! The only problem (at least for me) is that the hulls are narrower and the main salon is about half the size of similar sized cats. Is that a problem? Well, until Peter decides to give a competitive price, it sure is!!!
