If I understand your post correctly, the pedestal
is moving relative to an autopilot drive that is mounted either to the side of the cockpit
or the cockpit
sole. This means that the pedestal
is moving relative to the deck
, and this should NEVER happen. The autopilot is not pushing on the pedestal any harder than you would when steering by hand.
If the pedestal is moving--even a little bit--you need to repair the base where the pedestal attaches to the cockpit sole. You might have something as simple as loose bolts, or something as major as a wet and soft deck core
. In any event, it has the potential to lead to a major steering issue and needs to be fixed. A "brace" is not the answer.
