Edson steering

i have a 1998 hunter 410 ,i have the Edson steering and rarmarine autopilot
the top of wheel control is about 24 inches above base 15 inches above autopilot wheel, the base of autopilot is firm, the edson post moves in relation to motor,hense chain tight than loose,the edson base is tight to mounting
has anyone braced top of wheel post to stop this movement?

If I understand your post correctly, the pedestal is moving relative to an autopilot drive that is mounted either to the side of the cockpit or the cockpit sole. This means that the pedestal is moving relative to the deck, and this should NEVER happen. The autopilot is not pushing on the pedestal any harder than you would when steering by hand.

If the pedestal is moving--even a little bit--you need to repair the base where the pedestal attaches to the cockpit sole. You might have something as simple as loose bolts, or something as major as a wet and soft deck core. In any event, it has the potential to lead to a major steering issue and needs to be fixed. A "brace" is not the answer.

I need to take the acess cover off the bottom in bedroom ceiling

There were no nuts on the bottom of the pedestal where through the support I put big washers lock lock washers and nuts on 6 bolts tighten it up
I think the bolts were in 5200
