Dual Helm Catamarans?

It's not really an attribute you can filter for on YachtWorld.

So far I've got:
  • Seawind 1160/1250/1260
  • Catana 42
  • Nautitech 442

I'm trying to focus on boats in the 38 to 42' range that might be available used for around $400K.

Any others I should be aware of?

Re: Dual Helm Catamarans?

I think all the older Nautitechs were dual helm including the newer Open 40. All the older Catanas were dual helm except the 381. You have the C401 and the C411 and the older C42 and the C431 which is slightly bigger than your spec.

FWIW the older Lagoons from 47' and longer were dual helms.

I wasn't aware of that. The 38' perhaps?

I guess I have to ask— Why dual helms? On a monohull it let’s you sit on your preferred side.

Most dual helm monohulls let you trim main and jib from the leeward side. The Seawind duplicates almost no controls on the port side.

So what is gained with the second helm on a cat??

On a cat, it let's you steer from preferred side as well. Windward or leeward side. Oh, and motor controls are on port side on Seawind 1160 and 1260, and starboard side on Seawind 1000.

Dual helms allows you to change helms to find some shade, also allows you to pick a side that may be out of the wind, rain or spray. On our Seawind 1000 there was a jib sheet on both sides so one could steer on either tack and sheet the jib.

On the 1160 Lite you can have engine controls on either side and on the 1260 you can have dual engine controls

Hmm, didn't know that RE: the Lite. I have one being built now. Scheduled completion mid Dec. All the ones I have seen are port engine controls.
