They've been doing that for years at Robinhood Marina in
Maine. Build a small house on a barge, make it look a bit boat-ish, moor it out in the bay and rent it out to tourists. It's probably a great
vacation. I think they throw in a small motorboat to get back and forth, and some paddlecraft.
And of course, these days there are a million house
boats on AirBNB. Again, I'm sure it's a lot of fun for some people. I was talking to the renters in one of them once when I was tied up across the
dock from them. They were up on the top
deck, drinks in hand, enjoying watching the river traffic go by.
Not everyone can, or wants to, go cruising. For some, sitting out on your own private island in the
water is good enough. Just look at all the
boats which never leave the marina.
