You are correct in foam not doing anything when inside. The examples I wrote about involved beefing up the exterior stern sections of the hulls. At the moment I am putting on uo to 8cm of foam onto the outside of the sterns of my little cat. Then I have to fair the foam, glass it and fair again then
paint.
Stern extensions
work well on
boats with wide and vertical sterns. If this is your style of
boat, then you are in luck. You can do a transom extension with not too much
work. It still will not float the stern much higher, but it certainly will improve the boat's performance.
Many cats now have thinner sterns with steps. These can be trickier. BUt in Australias we have a popular cat -
Seawind 1000 - that does very well with stern extensions. They even made an extended version - XL.
I would recommend you chat with the
designer some more. What you do will depend heavily on the stern configuration and how problematic the stern squatting is.
