Did 15.5 Knots Today!
We had a nice windy day today with the boat doing better than 10 knots regularly. But there was that one really windy section. We were above 15 knots for a good while. It was a new record for me on this boat! And she's for sale.

Fantastic! Sounds like you were having a blast! If my boat is doing 15 knots I'm going over Niagara Falls!

That would be a record for probably 99% of all sailors on any boat. Don't sell Bob!

Yeah, but the previous owner of our boat told me he regularly got 10 knots or more. Problem was he forgot to factor in the local 4 knot currents.

Anything does 15 knots if you chuck it off a 10 story building! Fun though (the 15 knots, not falling off a $)(;: great wave!) :-)

Re: Did 15.5 Knots Today!
Had a great Sail under Spinnaker heading towards Mackay at around 18 Knotts and lots of fun picking up waves and surfing .Took a while to get comfortable abd had to keep pulling the sock down to reduce speed.Ended up being quite confortable with about 1/3 rd of the sail up.

Re: Did 15.5 Knots Today!
Things get a bit squirrely over 15 knots. Everything needs to be sorted just right, and frankly I was not comfortable in my 28 foot rig at 18.5knots:
I hope to have it configured better by the end of this year....

Re: Did 15.5 Knots Today!
The day I sold my Stiletto 27 we were reaching at consistent 14-16 for long periods. I had cleaned out all the old junk, painted the bottom, and tweaked anything that could be... and I didn't want to sell her!
But mostly I'm happy with my new slower ride. In fact, she's not that much slower to windward in breeze, as she points a little better and doesn't reef as soon. The daily distance is similar, since I don't get tired; that 9 knots to windward on the Stiletto required vigilance on the tiller and main sheet, where as now she's on autopilot and I'm reading, looking up now and then.

Re: Did 15.5 Knots Today!
It was a blast yesterday. The boat wasn't squirrely but we were.
One issue was the short window of time that we could sail. Also the wind was coming from the west which is the upper end of the bay and we didn't want to get too far downwind so we had lots of short tacks.
My boat also has lots of stuff in it. It would really fly if it was sorted out and some was removed but I'll leave that for the new owner.

Just because it was so unbelievable, did in 2007 off Inhaca, Mozambique
19 knots with my Catalac 10m, following windof 30 knots, following seas, waves of 4 meter, only had furler genoa 1 meter rolled out. It was mobd blowibgly confortable, cat foubd irs perfect rythm, never happened again. Experiences like that challenge ones physical and spiritual limits, but realize that cat can loose control quickly and one needs to monitor the speed, the elements actively to trim sail, to use breaking equipment like drogue which can improve steering. My autopilot managed to stay in perfect control proving the perfect balance of the cat. And then some claim catalacs sail like cottages on the water...

Re: Did 15.5 Knots Today!
Had the needle PINNED at 12 knots (so don't know actual top speed) surfing down big waves going into Oxnard...... on a 32 foot mono...... I was younger and wilder then........

Re: Did 15.5 Knots Today!
The thing is, I learned to sail on a chute-equipped beach cat. Everything feels slow after that, including some big cats I've been on that were considerably faster. And I was younger.
