Delamination...?

For reference, I've read this article about cat design: https://www.catamaransite.com/refere...ran-structure/

Surveyor said that this area under the bridgedeck, roughly 3 feet wide centered around where the hammer is located in the picture I've attached to this message failed the tap test. There are a few suspicious linear areas forward and aft of where the hammer is located.

Coming from a monohull world, this isn't in a location where I'd expect to find delamination commonly (well, monohulls don't have this area, but you know what I mean). The area looks to me like where a cat would commonly bash upwind, but not an area that would be at risk for direct impact in a grounding or docking incident.

I just figured I'd get your thoughts on what you see here.

Thanks.

Re: Delamination...?

Delamination/core sparation can happen anywhere on any vessel.

Could be production flaw (more common than you'd think), could be poor repair, could be hydrolysis, could be wet balsa core (if so cored).

I found one brand new cat with about a square foot of hull skin 3mm thick.
I found a powerboat with 3sq' with no glass fiber, just gelcoat, resin and balsa core.

You might find this interesting ...
