Crossbeam issues

The A frame on my crossbeam, Leopard 44 (2017) has a small bend in the upright tubes. So far I haven't located a source to replace. Z Spar is the manufacturer.

I want to add a bowsprit anyway, so I was wondering if I could replace it with one that has a bowsprit included?

Re: Crossbeam issues

You could get a new A frame fabricated using spreader section.

I don't think it would be a good idea to incorporate a bowsprit into it. If say, your spinnaker halyard let go in a solid breeze, you would run over the spinnaker, which would exert a massive load on the bowsprit, and could bring down your rig, if the sprit were strongly connected to the A frame.

My bowsprit is basically a short spinnaker pole, with spinnaker pole ends at each end. It clips onto a stainless ring on the front of the forebeam. When not in use, it's held up be the spinnaker halyard, when in use VB cord from the A frame holds it up (as well as the spinnaker).

If the spinnaker halyard failed, the VB cord would break, protecting the A frame. There's a second, longer VB cord to the beak release, so when the first VB cord snaps, the second one should release the kite.

Re: Crossbeam issues

Post a picture. I would think anything is easily available from the Zspar rep. Back open Thursday.

Re: Crossbeam issues

If the “slight bend” is not from you having an accident but from too much tension on the wire, I would call the R&C folk and put in a warranty claim.
