My thoughts as well. We’ve purchased 6 catamarans from owners and 5 from broker.
We now own 2 but have sold the other 9 by owner and most were pleasurable experiences.

The broker declared the 2019 survey - I thought you have seen it already. They may be in negotiations with another prospective buyer, hence, all the issues you are facing. What you could do is contacting another local broker to represent you on this - such a broker will be able to tell you right away what's going on here - especially as you are away from the scene. The seller's broker may not like to share the commission and you may need to offer your broker a 5% commission if the deal is going through - this is the common practice at such cases.

- As for the US market used cruising boats situation, any claim the market is "hot" is baseless - mostly an illusion of some owners inflated by the typical hot-air of the brokers. We are at the end of a season in most of the country. The beginning of the season in Florida is still at least two months out and most important, the troubled economy keep smart sailors close to their cash, where lenders will hesitate to finance boats without a solid collateral.

Would that be an unmotivated salesman or is that standard procedure?

I have seen the 2019 survey and it was very incomplete. It said nothing about the two soft spots that I found in the deck.

Never seen that as common practice in the states. Common practice is a 10% commission that is split between 2 brokers if the buyer brings his own broker, no money out of the buyers pocket for his buyers broker.
Whether working on a possible deal or not, to not take on new customers even though you may think you have a buyer is a disservice to the seller.

I just read the survey, and yes very basic. Looks like a basic in the water insurance survey. Still could be a great deal.

I think that I learned a lesson. Don't post a good deal on cruisers forums.

Good deal is still out there for you and when you posted on CF you had a contract on the boat? I do believe you are in the drivers seat!
On edit, I like the boat but not interested. Just got the survey out of interest.

Agreed! And you’re in an even better position now the seller wants a lower price.

In saying that, it’s a good lesson to learn as well. I kept my latest boat on the down low until the purchase was complete, just in case😉
