Wink Comparison Between Outremer Light and Standard

Just wondering if the hulls are the same. So if you loaded a Light down with genset and aircon, etc would it become a Standard? Also are there any other differences. Thanx BOB

Hi Sand crab,

I have no idea whether the hulls are the same or not. However, I am pretty sure that a fast and light cat will turn into lightly loaded FP or Lagoon , if it's heavily loaded.
All boats will lose their performance by added load. Cats more than monohulls, light and fast cats more than standard cats..
Cheers

Thanx Yeloya, I agree with you as far as the loading but an Outremer Standard is still the fastest production boat around. Switch, Gunboat, Freydis, etc are not really production boats. For example an Outremer 55 Light is only about 17,000 lbs which is about half of the Catana 50 or Lagoon 50. I think the Standard comes in at about 24,000 lbs. Air conditioning and a genset added to a Light would be about 1000 to 2000 lbs. Correct me if I'm wrong. So, if the hulls and rig are the same then a converted Outremer 55 Light would still be lighter and therefore faster than a Standard or just about anything else. The tradeoff is the spartan accomodations which is OK for me. I'm a sweater so laying in my berth when it's 95 degrees outside isn't going to work. I welcome any input you might have. Fair winds.

If i understand right the Outremer 50/55 can be found with daggerboards or keel. Or maybe the light only have daggerboards.
I don´t know changes from earlier outremer 55 light and newer.

Standard and Light have the same hulls.

Beam width :
Standard 7.8 m
Light 7.2 m

60 cm more beam adds about 1.5 t I think.

Also you can get a 55L for about the same price as a 45. The galley is the same too ... a 55L is a real racing machine ... :-)

Downside is for 10 ft more you don't get much more living space and marinas will charge you a lot more.

Btw Outremer's come ONLY with daggerboards.

Thinking of a long term circumnavigation and an Outremer 50L or 55L would be a nice boat for that.

Keel Outremer

Btw, I did see one Outremer that was built with keels instead of boards. It is currently fo sale. I think it was in Multihulls World classifieds. I am guessing that it may be the only one. Even with keels I'll wager that it performs better than most. BOB
