Re: Cheap Multis and Projects
Great to see this thread. I will always love Searunners, I've been a multi guy for many years. I'm currently looking for a power trimaran. Design, built boat what ever. They seem to be pretty scarce, I only have one pic a nice one I have yet to track down the owner/designer/builder. I toyed with taking a needy Try, whacking off the ama's and skas and making it a power boat. Not much out there on this type of boat. Any leads? Screen Shot 2020-08-24 at 10.17.16 AM.jpg

She's gorgeous.
Not sure how well maintained. Shame we are on the wrong side of the big pond.
Turning her into a power boat would be a crime though.

I'm a diehard mono guy but this kind of interest me. I am familiar with Wharram but never saw this one in his design portfolio.

Re: Cheap Multis and Projects
It is a Wharram Tangaroa MK 1, but the cabins are not as in the plans. This is why it looks different.

Re: Cheap Multis and Projects
It's not a 27' version so not really in any demand. You can but an average condition 26' one for about £12,000 which is less than you'd pay to get this back to former glory.
However the title of this thread is cheap multi and projects, not good value multis and easy projects, so it is for sure a valid entry.

Probably a lot is the cost of the haul. Note he said a crane haul out.
Likely no travel lift in his area can accommodate the beam, and probably no decent place to do a dry out in his area. You'd want a haulout to survey anyhoo, methinks. Would take a pretty beefy crane, too. Then twice the space in a boat yard, and yada yada.

FYI All:
Portsmouth Boating Center (Portsmouth, VA) recently modified width of travel lift to 27 ft. width. They do not allow DIY. Also, I recently received a quote of just under USD1000 to lift a 9500 lbs. boat high and at 40 ft. reach by mobile crane, one way, also in Portsmouth, private property.
