Re: Cheap Multis and Projects
Hi, folks & friends !
... does anybody know the owner / builder of the Trimaran " Wind Dancer" ? This one.
It's a 32 Footer, Farrier Command 10, built in 2005 (fiberglas) and is for sales by the builder himself via a broker. I am interested as buyer for "living aboard" ... as this Tri has stand hight (1.85-1.95 m) and aft cabin.
I suppose the boat sits on the trailer already since 3 years, see first video via Apollo Duck in 2015, that time at a prize of 45k US$. Actual prize is again reduced to 30k US$.
The Tri is only offered by Pop Yachts (see PDF attachment), from where I don't get any response after I sent an email with different questions.
A bunch of Internet platforms promote this boat, which all link back to Pop Yachts. E.g. MoreBoats, Yachtall or iNautia.
I did little bit googling, and I had to notice (too) many negative feedbacks about Pop Yachts, like these complaints ... or even negative feedback from side of former brokers as read here.
The boat seems to be registered in Nevada, Las Vegas and is located in Boulder City (Clark County, Nevada).
Has anybody direct contact with the owner/builder ? - If so, it would be great to send me contact datas via PM. If possible I like to avoid that PopYachts is being involved.
Tks in advance giving attention to. :-)

Re: Cheap Multis and Projects
Pop yachts is one of those companies. You can only get information by giving them yours first. Then they will spam you until the end of time. Ask me how I know.
Their business model is built upon the "we hire anybody with a pulse" as boat broker. These newly minted brokers then call every unlisted boat ad from Craigslist and other sites trying to get the listing. Because of this you will see many lower price boats like ski boats and such. Most of the time the "brokers" haven't even see the boat and actually I wonder if they have ever been on any boat ever. I'm not saying that they are crooked but just be aware of what you are getting into.

Re: Cheap Multis and Projects
Yeah, maybe check Craigslist and local NV sites for another listing.
Looks suspiciously cheap for a "2005 built" Farrier Command 10, which is a 1980 design, btw, so why it would not be being built till '05 is a query I'd want answered.
The info on the POP ad says it was a development of the F32 which is bollocks - the Command 10 was purpose-designed by Ian Farrier as a cruising boat, with a much broader hull shape than the F32.
Last one I saw for sale (and very few were ever built) was in Oz and was asking AUS$85K and it was mint one-owner. So maybe equivalent of US$62K.
So essentially half price - IF - the boat is in good nick. Ad says 3 seasons on the hard, so maybe not....
In which case it might not be cheap, if it needs work such as a refurb to engine or sails or whatever....
Apparently is a good design, seaworthy, world-cruising boat (although Farrier never claimed it was, being conservative, and it being a folding boat - the largest folding tri he'd designed at that time).
I have a full set of plans for one, if anyone's interested, PM me your email and I'll send you a link to my cloud storage site. Big files. PDF scanned by plan printer from original blueprints...

Found out a little more about the boat. The original builder had problems with the center board so he changed to a small keel. Boat may well be a little over weight. Trailer is sorta home built and it is not clear how easy it would be to launch the boat at a ramp. It is a legit price. It probably has normal sitting unused issues.

The interior is very nice, the centerboard is rough, I inspected her twice, and have the owners number somewhere

Re: Cheap Multis and Projects
I have the full-size drawings for Farriers OEM centreboard and casing, if anyone want to renew the original C/B, if as is suggested, it's been removed.

Re: Cheap Multis and Projects
He told me the trunk is intact, but had a troublesome leak, so he built the keel around it.

Re: Cheap Multis and Projects
Dunno if this has been posted already, but here's a YouTube channel of a group that bought a Irma damaged Lagoon 450:
By my estimates, at the point of the above video their cost in purchase and materials alone is %50 of the value of a used version of that boat.
Doesn't look worth it. (I think they paid too much.)

All depends how much work you’re willing to put in really. If you can do a lot of it yourself, have the time to do it and like to tinker, as you note above you’ve only paid 50% the cost of a used version so that might represent good value in itself.
A Lagoon is a good starting base as well (solidly built and good re-sale) - all depends on your circumstances really!

Re: Cheap Multis and Projects
This looked pretty exciting to me as a second boat, until I read "needs new bulkheads in hulls". Pretty vague. Anyone know what this means? Is this a common enough thing for these boats that people know this is a "stay away its gonna ruin your life" or "not a big deal, just follow this guide"? Given the price of others Endeavors for sale, looks like it's a $30k discount.

New bulkheads is a pain in the arse as they’re often fitted before the deck goes on... having just added to forward crash bulkheads, I can highly suggest staying away from anything like it!!
