This is so true, I often say "I can't afford an old boat". It's more about buying good value, subtle but significant difference.

Re: Cheap Multis and Projects
That Maine Cat 41 is near the top of my all time favs. So sad to see it like this.
These go for around $300K so it might be worth a resurrection.

Re: Cheap Multis and Projects
That Corinthian trimaran is being auctioned off today. It closes in just under 2 hours, at noon Central Time, 11/11/17.
There is a reserve -- I don't know what it is, but it's said to be well below the $19,000 he was asking on CL a few months ago.
Current high bid is $5.00!

Re: Cheap Multis and Projects
The trimaran went up to $13,000 last I saw, and then got withdrawn.
I'm on the list of people who had inquired about the boat, so I have gotten some emails from the owner. Here's the latest:
UPDATE: to the Corinthian Trimaran Auction.
The Trimaran has been withdrawn from the auction and is still For Sale.
You can make an appointment to see the boat with me or my son.
As you already know from the passed emails “updating" the listing on the Jeff Martin Auctioneers website that the listing changed daily for a week.
I was trying to keep you informed as the changes that where thrown at me.
The day changed twice, the ring number changed twice, the stock number changed once, the lot number changed once and the the time of the item auction changed twice "during the auction”.
There have been three different women and three different men juggling this listing. I’m sure all had their heart in the right place but we kept falling through the cracks.
They missed getting the photos of the boat on their mailing fliers although I made the deadline for the printing.
The last being the most confusing and critical.
The lot number changed from #9000 to #1531A and I noon time was injected in the equation.
I think they wanted to make up for the problems and wanted to do me a favor and do a noon feature. They may have guessed the auction would happen at 12:00noon.
I’m not sure but the auctioneer missed that time slot and people assumed it would stay with the item number and re-calculating the time would make the auction around 4pm.
People walked away and went to lunch, as we did.
After finishing lunch, we looked up and the auction had started at 12:20pm.
WHAT THE HECK?!?
So, as I write, the auction is now at #1445 and it’s near 3pm.
The listing shows “PASSED”…it has been withdrawn and is still For Sale.
I’m sorry for the confusion but it has been a hassle for us too.
The boat is ready to run and ready to sail.

Re: Cheap Multis and Projects
More details from the owner of the Lauren Williams 41ft "Triton"
Dear Friend,
Thank you for expressing interest in my Project trimaran "Triton" I went down to the Wilmington NC area yesterday and took some pictures and house washed the hulls and .a bit of the deck. she is a significant project I will list a few items
Aspects of the very large deck are delaminating on the edges... though the deck feels solid. the cockpit floor 4'x 22' needs replacing with new engine hatch. the outer back third of the starboard ama has delaminated leaving a wavy exterior for about 8 feet. The fix is to remove the glass and replace any needed wood and re-glass. Top of cockpit hatch needs replacing and stairs down need repair. Cabin floor has been removed and a couple of the floor joists need sistering or replacement. Plan to drain the water below and check bilge tomorrow. Needs cleaning of dirt and mildew.
Mainmast and standing rigging appear solid and as do winches and forward roller furling., bow pulpit appears ok and holds anchor. Aft mast came down in a storm and someone borrowed my solar panel. wind generator appears damaged beyond repair with possible re-use of post. Rudder, prop and shaft look good but the metal connection from forward of the prop and under it looks rusted and would need to be replaced. from what I could see the engine looks ok but will need a new starter. As I have mentioned the left front motor mount will need replacement and /or repair.
I believe the sails to be functional and are under canvas covers or sacrificial panels.
Bow rail and stanchions appear to be as good as always but the wire between them and coating is aged. A disturbing visual is that the wooden rub rail around the outside of the vessel is apparently pine and has rotted. The fix would be removal of the rail and re-glassing of the deck joint with a new rail around. the metal Going down tomorrow probably and do some work the front 8 feet or so of the aka is the head and that room appears to be in good shape.
Here is the bottom line. I want to participate in her revival and so I am offering to give her away subject only to the agreement to take over rent in the yard where you can work on her yourself.or with beer and friends. It is 150/month. I cannot take her back and pick up rent if later you want to move on to something else. If that is not acceptable then I will salvage the mainmast and standing rigging the hardware the aft mast and rigging, the engine transmission, shaft and prop. Inside there are sails and sail-covers, a spinnaker cushions and odds and ends. Feel like I could get 3500 to 5000. Would rather it go to someone to restore and use.
Thanks Harry

I met the designer at an Annapolis show once. I love the open design, the boards, and its attention to performance that condomarans generally eschew. This is a HOT cruiser! I hope this one IS rehabilitated.

Re: Cheap Multis and Projects
You'd actually be surprised how slow a main cat is compared to other performance cruising cats
