The
boat was from 2001. There was nothing to be seen on the outside of the
hull. On the inside, it could be seen that on some places, the veneer on the bulkheads was wobbly, pluis some cracks in the veneer in the corners, and the 2 bulkhead doors in that
hull did not close.
Also the rig had a very high tension.
In those days
Catana worked a lot with subcontractors what may have caused substandard
work. The bulkheads are made from honeycomb with
fiberglass on both sides. For the doors, holes were cut in these bulkheads without strengthening the edges of the cutouts. Combined with honeycomb, this weakens the bulkhead's resistance to shear.
The
Catana instruction was to strengthen the cutout with layers of
fiberglass. Regretfully, this is a very big job, especially with the front bulkhead, where
parts of the bathroom inner shell have to be removed.
