No, the monohulls I compared these 2 cats with are also $2.8M price range with equivalent specifications. I’m comparing new state of the art cats to new monos. (A full carbon fiber 526 is about $2.4 with every conceivable option, 11.2 ton lightship at HH55 is about $3.2M and is about 14T, both are wind speed boats)
I agree there are pockets of price segments though where I’d say a mono would be a better choice. If you are doing high latitudes, a mono is the way to go without question in my opinion at any price point.

New video of the HH 55.

Nice looking cat, but way to many systems that would require maintenance or break for us.

The fun continues in the North Atlantic
https://www.routedurhum.com/en/actualite/524
I went to a reception last night by Bill Lee in honor of his being inducted into the sailing hall of fame. He related a dinner with with Peter Johnstone who left the family Jboat business to found Gunboat, which promoted luxury fast catamarans. Peter is back with the family business at MJM (Mary Johnstone's Motorboat), which has morphed into luxury powerboats. The Gunboats ran into hard times when it turned out that their boats were more than a rich owner and his family could handle. The Gunboat name has been sold to another promoter.
The Eagle 53T is just another very high performance catamaran aimed at people with more money than brains. A wing mast and automated full foiling system--what could possibly go wrong? (not to mention the need for continuous diesel power) I can confidently predict that the 53T will go the way of the bitcoin.

And that’s why these threads get silly sometimes. Your definition of what you need to carry may differ from mine. That’s why they make boats of all different sizes and configurations.

Why would this boat need continuous diesel power? I'm interested.

Gunboat was acquired by Grande Large in France so I fail to see the relevance of this in regard to catamarans vs monohulls.

And people need to get a dose of reality and understand what their and their choice of vessels limitations are.
No boat is perfect, but some get closer than others and it's not always $$$ that get you there.
