I wouldn't call ours a blog - it's a real website. We've been working on it for 11 years & it currently has over 700 live pages. Major sections include Cruising Info (including Track files & satellite photos), Destinations, Underwater, Newsletters, and Flora & Fauna. Oh, & a small section on our catamaran! (OK, we get kinda bloggish on our refit pages)

What are you doing with your list?

We have one that is in the beginning stages - will be departing this summer for the Northeast of the US and tracking to the canal by 2013.

Does anyone know of more blogs with kids onboard?

Our kids plan to do more writing as we get going. Currently, our 9 yr old son has only posted a short blip, but is eager to do more & is looking forward to comments.

Re: Catamaran Blogs !

Well, as we are new on this 'blogs world', I don't have much more contribuition for this list, but from now I will have for sure because I love this list.
I know another catamaran blogs both with some brazilians onboard and have sailed in brazil, that are
Catamarã Moonwalker
and
A vida é feita de sonhos....

And this is our blog Ocean of Dreams
We are sailing Brazilian Coast, I'm brazilian and Pieter is from Holland. We are starting our journey around the world.

Fair winds,
Cristina.

Hi Monty - We started when Amanda was 12 & Chris was 15, & they each have their own sections of the website which offers their own perspectives. We didn't edit their sections. They also did much of the research when we wrote up new areas or countries, as well as publishing essays & such, as part of their schoolwork.

We noticed that when kids lifestyle is changed, they sometimes focus on what they no longer have (like high-speed internet) so it might take as long as a year for them to really embrace the cruising lifestyle. We also found that "when the kids are happy, the whole boat's happy" so we tended to cruise with other "kid boats" when we could. We've published some articles on Cruising with Teens & Family Cruising that might be interesting.

Family Cruising[/B] that might be interesting.
Thanks, Ocelot! I'm looking forward to showing our kids your kids' pages. Ours will be 12 & 10 when we set sail this summer. Our daughter loves writing & photography, so I'm hoping her page will become quite developed over the next several years. And, like your family, we'd like to stay cruising for as long as possible.

Sounds like the perfect ages to us! If they're into photography, try this: Get the family dive certified (we did it in Bonaire) & then get one of the Canon point-&-shoots that will fit into one of their UW housings (~$200 extra). You'll be lucky if the kids let you even touch the camera! Get a good Fish ID book & ID the fishes after a dive (or even a snorkel). The kids will love it & will be learning without even knowing it!

Don't know what web development tools you're using, but best to get something that you can do on your computer, on the boat, & then upload when you get an internet connection. Systems that depend on you being on-line while you write are difficult (& $$) when your internet connection is dodgy.

Thanks for the great advice! We do plan to get everyone dive certified, and I'm sure the kids would love the photography responsibility. As for web tools, someone we know just set us up with WordPress & I'm in the process of learning it as I create our website. With Sailblogs, I figured out to write my post on my computer & then copy/paste it to the post when I was ready. Hoping that method will also work with WordPress when internet is dodgy.
