Bridle Material?

We just bought our first cat - a 48 Privilege catamaran and there was not a bridle aboard. What is the best material and size for 32,000 lbs of boat that loves to be at anchor with stretch? I am used to 3-strand for snubbers but is 6,8,12 plait line better? Just not sure - been on land to long.

We use one inch three strand nylon for the bridle on our Privilege 39. We have stainless steel thimbles on the end of the bridles for attaching to the the ABI bridle plate using D-shackles.

We have only had two bridles in fourteen years. We kept one of them spare in the event there was a chafe problem.

We have never broken a bridle, but I suspect that salt crystals and sun have weakened them to some degree. Nevertheless, they are still going strong after 14 years.

The bridle on ours is 1 1/4" (32mm) multiplait (I think either 8 or 12). Each arm is around 15ft plus a single 3ft piece that is connected to the anchor chain.

Does multiplait have the same stretchy characteristics as 3 - strand?

Marlow “Multiplait” is Nylon, and has similar stretch (elongation), but much more flexibility (hand), to/than conventional 3-strand.
