Bahia 46 real value

Hello sailors,
I have a question that in my mind for a while.
Why FP Bahia 46 is going for much less than equivelant cats, say Leopards and Lagoons?
Is there a problem with this model?

Re: Bahia 46 real value

I think the last year was 2006 for this model. Leopard 47 and the Lagoon 470 were closest to this size and vintage. The Leopards are about the same price while maybe the L470 might be a bit more but they weren't a really popular design so it's hard to judge the value. The lagoon 440 came out in 2004 btw and those usually cost more. But I think the main reason they are cheaper is that many were put into charter just like the Leopard 47s and are well used by now. The Bahias generally have good reviews.

Re: Bahia 46 real value

Yachthub and Yachtsales listings, approximate values;
2004-2006 Bahia 46 currently averages around $320K AUD
2004-2006 Leapord 46/47 $400K AUD
2004-2006 Lagoon 44/440 $485K AUD

Most of these boats were in charter.
Owners versions are higher than the average on all three brands, particularly Lagoon.

I suppose the build quality would be similar, is it the design, performance or the reputation?

Might be down to the original purchase cost and the manufacturers options/ add on costs.

Bahia is probably the best performing of the group.

We had a BAhia in our charter fleet for a longtime and I sailed with her in many occasions. It's a very well made boat, didn't suffer any osmosisi that some FP models did heavily. She sails much better than other cats you are refering to.

Downsides are soft bimini (most of the others have hard top bimini) and no flybridge , if this does matter for you.

Cheers

The Bahias have older style layout in terms of helm and cockpit access from sterns and sleeping arrangements. I always wanted to buy one years ago, but there are better layout options available now days.

For an older boat they sail well.

I dont know why the price difference, but the Bahia is a good boat. I used to captain a couple in charter.

Re: Bahia 46 real value

FP did suffer some osmosis delamination problems with ranges that followed shortly afterwards so maybe this had a knock on effect on the Bahia prices.

Re: Bahia 46 real value

I know of a Bahia 46 for sale in Panama if interested.

I used to run this boat in Belize. The owner became a friend of mine. The boat has been very well maintained.

Re: Bahia 46 real value

There is one Bahia 46 for sale in the US right now for a very enticing price. I had a deposit on it but it failed the survey. If anyone is interested in that boat, I can sell you the survey.

I was really disappointed in the outcome as I really liked the boat, the equipment and the layout. Overall the Bahia 46 is a very nice boat. I have not seen any bad press, everything I've read indicate it is a well built and thought out boat.

Were the issues specific to that boat or something that might apply to other Bahia's too?

Re: Bahia 46 real value

Problems were both, but the biggest were specific to that boat...it may have hit a bridge at some point in its life, but that is speculation on my part. Bridges or highly stressed rigs will rip a boat up in unseen places.

As a general issue with any cat over 10 years old, have the standing rigging inspected. Unfortunately the rig inspectors will probably condemn it as a matter of course and insurance companies are now all over that if the cat over 10 years old. Cost to replace on that size boat will be close to 20K. Ouch!

Yes, rigs generate a lot of stress loads in cats. Always look for compression/damage in the mast step/main beam area too...hard to access on many boats.

That Bahia 46 is back on the market. Apparently it was sold in June 2021 and the new owners are selling her again, but this time they are asking 275 000$ (original asking price was 199 000$) without a broker
