We were talking about a Wichard snap shackle to go thorugh the chain link, not the Wichard chain hook which hooks around the chain link.
Different things.

How does that pin and spring hold up after continuous use?

Some seem to have his results over longer periods.
ours has bent after maybe two month. Once bent for the first time it required straightening every few days. My wife hated it because she had to call me from the helm to the about locker to release the hook.

That's why we switched to the snap shackle on the next boost.

Re: Attaching anchor chain to bridle?

The way I anchor, I need to be able to get the bridal on fast. Once the chain is taut, it's too late and I either need to let out more (usually not possible in busy anchorages) or pull in a little and let out again. Bit of a pain really.

Likewise removing the bridal attachment is done at nearly full stretch so anything fiddly just wouldn't work for me.

Would that be "boot", as in "das boot"?

Pleased to read that there are many solutions that work. It seems that different cats are best served by different solutions. Our anchor chain runs over the forebeam, so what's best for us may be totally unsuitable for a cat with a chain running under the trampoline, etc.

The input of mono owners is welcome, but their setup and ideal solution is a different thing again.

I'm pleased to report that the new, replacement bkack plastic retainer on our super heavy duty Mantus chain hook has proven to be durable and quick to engage/disengage.

Re: Attaching anchor chain to bridle?

We have the Mantus bridle also and it has been reliable other than the plastic clip breaking. We recently had a failure of one side of the bridle due to chafe while anchored in shallow water. Our solution to the problem is using a fender tied to the anchor hook to keep the bridle off the bottom. This should also prevent the hook from coming off the chain.
