Re-the ranting about the 6 "p"s....its not Boatman's vessel. Furthermore to paraphrase the Rolling Stones " if you don't wanna rock me,,,,I know somebody will". It happens in aviation as well. Survival Of the most fit and Boatman lives in that arena.

Nor am I suggesting that no lessons can be learned from this delivery. What bothers me is that some of those who were the most directly critical of him and his approach did not first ask him first if there was anything he would have done differently. Any lessons that he has learned. Afterall, he was there and we were not.

Perhaps they should have first asked if he thought he could have arranged a shake-down cruise prior to departure and if not, why not. I for one was glad that Boaty shared his adventure with us. Lets face it, how many of us would want to be placed under the microscope of CF in similar circumstances? In exchange I would like to think that we would give him (or anyone ) the benefit of the doubt, or at least a reasonable opportunity to explain himself prior to going on the offensive.

I'm sure you just meant that reference for fun, but...

It's not the observation that creates the Schrödinger's cat situation but rather the lack of ability to observe it. Schrödinger's cat is about the possibility of two simultaneous states. When you've observed the outcome, the state is clear.

I believe you mean the observer effect, but even that doesn't work here because the tow boat wasn't really so much from being observed, but from active interference by the boat's owner. The comments on CF didn't affect Boatman's choices one iota, and probably won't now, either.

I think it turned out to be a pretty informative thread.

I'm a member of the Boatman fan club. Hats off to his experience. It's pretty clear that guy can sail anything anywhere. I don't understand blasting a few critics for some fair observations regarding trip preparation, though. Anybody who reads this thread and doesn't learn anything simply isn't paying attention.
