Re: Atlantic Delivery

Oh...

And if he took the time to set up his Spot with email addresses....

All he would have to do is push button 1 to send his prepared message #1 to the recipient list: "This is boaty checking in... all is fine, we are on a reasonable predicted schedule, and we have plenty of beer left"

Button 2 does the same thing, but sends message #2 to the recipient list:
"This is boaty checking in... all is fine with the boat and our passage, but the trip has gone to ***** because we RAN OUT of beer"

Button 3 (help/assist) does the same thing, but sends message #3 to the recipient list:"This is boaty and we are experiencing difficulties beyond our control that makes our passage unsafe. Please notify authorities of our position"

Button 4 SOS is the biggie: The Spot rescue coordination team gets in touch with the local athorities to begin a "rescue operation"

Re: Atlantic Delivery

NO ELECTRICITY?

In spite of continual assurances from wise heads on this forum that electricity is the source of all good things in modern boating? eg for crash pumps, emergency this and that, etc?

Luckily Boatie was never one of those particular "wise heads", so I trust he will do fine.

Nevertheless, thinking of you, mate.

To put that in perspective of how slow that is. The average human walking speed is about 5.0 kilometres per hour (km/h), or about 3.1 miles per hour (mph).

Could have walked 37.2 miles in the same time they sailed 11 miles. At his current speed he will not hit dirt for another 4 days.
heck I can swim 3 mph... and i a old and fat!

Re: Atlantic Delivery

I've figured it out;
He's making a film. The other guy on board is a cameraman, you guys are drafting the script.
I read through some old posts and right from the outset dramatisation was in the air with the legendary Boaty being challenged at every turn as he launched an out of season delivery.

Re: Atlantic Delivery

while I understand the fun and humor going on, I currently don't find it funny that someone is having a problem out in the open

Nobody on this thread thinks it is funny that he is having problems out in the open. Nobody. So it seems quite unnecessary for you to make such a comment. I don't know the man except for posts on this forum, but I am concerned. Nobody on this forum has said a single thing that is disrespectful or out of line.

Re: Atlantic Delivery

I am sure that Boaty will not be offended by anything on here so far. I am also sure that all those making funny comments would be out there helping him if it was possible.

Re: Atlantic Delivery

Lets not forget that this is a sailboat and boatie is a sailor.

This is a bit like CNN instant news and with even less context.

No one on a boat in doldrums is in a panic if the boat speed is zero and also a boat with engine and electric issues doesnt necessarily raise a panic either.

We are watching but not there and the fact it was a Securite and not a Pan Pan tells us that everything is fine, if inconvienent.

Gods forbid a Cat would have to sail upwind in light airs to a destination without using its engines...
