That is what I am thinking, especially since he is not smack dab in a well organized weather system. He is trying to skirt them. A newbie like me would tend to read the grib as gospel.

Good God that would be funny - once. I'm afraid how long it could take.

Re: Atlantic Delivery
i don't think there is any great stratergy in phils track!
he is just sailing with what the gods send him!
though i do think he will soon be back on an easterly track once the south south westerlies come back tonight, unless he is planning a stop in st martin for R&R.
looking at the gribs for the next week, the pressure gradient is very slack between 30 north and 40 north,so he would do well to keep heading for the azores ,
as the azores high re-establishes it self, later in the week, but he needs to be heading ENE to make the best use of it.

I'm sure he's gonna ROFL when he reads our comments and what we were thinking'. He probably mixed things up and thought he was delivering a boat to BVI!

Educational Passages Boats Launched late 2012
He could just be avoiding the "trash pile area" that one of these boats got caught in?

Re: Atlantic Delivery
Looks like Boaty is just following the wind. He must have some weather routing on board

Ontherocks83 - We machined the foam core for the skegs on this school project. It was fun to work with Dick Baldwin and Mark Fitzgerald knowing what this was leading to. And to see how the students jumped into this project. Educational Passages.

Yes it looked to me that he got headed and dived a bit south , now the Gribs are showing a more favourable wind and he's re shaping his course. Loosing that northing must of pissed him off though.
He definitely has weather on board or access to routing. There no way you'd search for wind going south unless you knew it was there.
Looks good now for the next 5 days with anything up to 20 knots or more
Dave
