Ashley Holliday Cats

Has anyone sailed/built a catamaran designed by Ashley Holliday particularly the Oceanic 40?

ASHLEY HOLLIDAY OCEANIC 40 boat details - BoatPoint Australia

No, but I do remember his thruster design had mixed results and issues
and his smaller cruiser being very narrow, but the vessel you are looking at appears quite nice and I can see the very similar resemblance to at least designs here.

Re: Ashley Holliday Cats

Hello there, asholliday - welcome aboard.

Is there any relationship between you and the cat being discussed?
(sadly the particular boat has gone from the market, so can't look at it in more depth )

Re: Ashley Holliday Cats

Since I sold my previous boat repair and boat building business my website has been down for a couple of years I am now in the process of building a new site Sailing Multihull Design but have not got the designs posted yet. Until then if you wish to contact me at rasholly51*at*yahoo*dot*com I am very happy to discuss multihull design with you and foward you .pdf or .dwf files of any study plans you may be interested in.

Re: Ashley Holliday Cats

Wow. That one looks like a racing cat from the outside, and a floating apartment from the inside!! Cool!

Geez, now you are making me go back in time, probably7 or 8 years and god knows how many bottles of rum.

I had a mate from Townsville on my boat in Brisbane where one of your rather narrow 9.5m designs was moored nearby (which never seemed to be used) and there were some interesting comments made which then led to a discussion on the thruster because he said he had crewed on it for a race, but it never made it to the start, with daggerboard problems if my memory serves me correctly.
He said he had sailed against it a few times in his 11m cruising cat, which I admit sailed very well, but a cruising boat none the less.
Apparently the thruster had bursts of speed and appeared impressive at times but couldn't keep it together to beat the cruiser over any sort of distance.

I believe I also read a similar story in Multihull World, but I may be mistaken but I'm sure you have a copy if I was right.

Perhaps they were teething problems?

How has its race history been since?
