Re: Any experience with the Seawind 1190 Sport?

One other advantage of the twin outboard setup is 2 less holes below the waterline.

Re: Any experience with the Seawind 1190 Sport?

Has a 1000 for 4 years and sailed all over SoCal and down to Panama Canal and thru to Caribe Outboards worked well w no issues except the slight cavitation mentioned earlier that was no an issue. Only real problem is they have to be removed for any service and usually was hard to to get outboard mechanics to come down to boat. They want you to bring into shop. Just ordered a new 1260 BTW

It seems like the 1160 would save about 80K, a few months wait, and some space from the daggerboards, while limiting the risk of being overpowered.

I have an appointment to look at an 1160 Lite tomorrow :-)

All the best,
The 1160s ive been on do hobby horse a fair bit - that 30cm may make more difference than you realise.

Keen to get on an 1190 if i ever get a chance so anyone ever needs delivery crew drop me a PM

Re: Any experience with the Seawind 1190 Sport?

New here...first post on CF. I am awaiting delivery of an 1190 from the factory. It is in final stages and should be on a ship to South FL in January. To say that I am excited would be an understatement. I’ve sailed monos for 30years and I am very interested in learning the nuances of making this boat go fast.

The use of the much lighter outboards instead of diesels probably significantly reduces hobby horsing as well.

OHANA is ready to leave the factory. She will start her journey on the cargo ship this week and land in South FL at the end of January. I’m happy to post comments or answer questions after I’ve had a chance to sail her. So far I have been very impressed with Seawind throughout the entire build process.

Congratulations. I sailed an 1190 on Sydney Harbour last week, very impressive. I distinct difference to the 1160 in feel.

Thanks Factor. I chartered the 1160 Lite to make sure my wife and 3 kids had plenty of space and enjoyed it before we ordered the 1190. It was very fun and easy to sail single handed. The shallow draft of the 1190 compared to the 1160 Lite was a must for my home dock and with a background in racing sailboats as an amateur I am really looking forward to the light weight and high aspect foils.

If you don’t mind what specifically was the biggest difference you noticed? Upwind angle, acceleration, steering? How easy was it to adjust the daggerboard and rudder levels? Thx.

Re: Any experience with the Seawind 1190 Sport?

I've been following the Seawind 1160 Victory Cat in the latest ARC. On Day 24 they are still 400 miles from St Lucia, and are screaming along at 3.6 knots, the last catamaran and 167th out of 172 boats still in the rally.

One of the reasons that they will miss the parties is that they had a brief stop in the Cape Verdes, probably for fuel after several days of light winds.

Does anyone know any more about this Seawind? Would it have outboards with a limited motoring range? Why are they still behind a Halberg Rassy 342 which left the Cape Verdes at the same time?

If it's a standard 1160 it will have diesels.

Its a standard diesel engine 1160 that the couple have been living aboard for about 6 or 7 years, travelled all over the world. BTW the outboard engined boat would have about the same motoring range as the diesel.

If its just a couple on board with significant cruising experience, that could explain why they are sailing more conservatively than the other ARC participants, who tend to be fully crewed and push their boats harder. They also have not posted any blogs, which points to a shorthanded crew.

They may be listening and have shaken a reef, because when I last checked they were up to a respectable 6.4 knots. The winds are definitely lighter on the northern side of the fleet.

We need to wait to see the enginehours on all boats.
