Re: America's Cup Flying Cats

Will the races be broadcast on the internet like the series in 2013?

The AC72's had pumps and batteries IIRC. The various teams agreed that they were too big and too expensive and it limited the number of entries into the series. They agreed that they would go smaller to bring the cost down to increase competition. So they went with AC50's with grinders/cyclers to generate hydraulic pressure. This might be a bit of an oversimplification but that's my understanding.

Re: America's Cup Flying Cats

Given how little wetted surface these boats have when foiling, it's astounding how much faster the Kiwi's were overall. And by faster I mean VMG - Oracle actually had better boat speed all the way around today, but their VMG was worse, much worse off the wind. ETNZ definitely found a winning formula, and then sailed way better on top of it. Congrats to them!

I guess this settles the "bike VS grinder" debate.

That's so awesome. Congratulations to ETNZ and the Kiwi's. Totally stoked me up to get over there for the next race in 4 years. Foiling monohulls would be my guess.
