I recently heard that over the past year or two the build quality and "fit out" of Admirals had deteriorated significantly. The thought was this was a conscious management decision to reduce cost in order to cope with the current economic conditions.

These comments were from a friend that lives in Cape Town and owns an Admiral.

Of course, if the boat your interested in is older these comments will not be relevant whether true or not.

The comments here may not fit the Process that the buyer is invited to participate in when buying an Admiral direct from the yard. Not only is the buyer housed in an apartment free, BUT also has totally free reign to visit the yard and spend as much time that he/she wants. Can ask any questions, ask for mods and if they they wish, free to bring a surveyor to examine any stages of construction.
Not many yards offer the same facility.

Not pertinent to the original question. However, in that same discussion with my Cape Town friend said Admiral no longer does all the customization that they did in the past.

Thanks for all the answers which do not answer the original question.

I'm interested in this Admiral 47 Cat, too and would be very glad to get further information about this type of boat.

I have just the following blog: We're Back! | Oceans Dream
I amazed to hear stories of some SA Catamaran builders that totally disregard warranty terms. Friends when selling and thats it, once its sold you become a liability. The Bumfuzzle most already know. This is a new story of someone that bought a brand new 40ft Admiral Cat that right away began to have problems, including a keel that would not hold the Cats weight when beached and the builder saying that the Cat was not build to do that!!!! My word to you WALK AWAY!!!! Structural problems and delamination issues are usually due to poor build, is not a one off problem it usually is a systematic problem that is not addressed by the builder. So if you are going to sail your boat, and not keep it on a slip like a condo, choose wisely.

The Admiral 47/50 is a somewhat dated design in MHO. If you were looking at an Admiral cat, the 38's are a good buy, the 40's have yet to prove themselves.

Admiral 47

Note that the pictures for this boat are 2003 or earlier, they were in the previous seller's listing.
