A catamaran that "sunk" in 2011 found back.

A catamaran that sunk in 2011 next to the Marquesas, due to a collision with a whale was found back (so remained half submerged all the time) :

No casualties at the time of the accident (German crew), but they were evacuated from the boat.

note : Didn't find any English news about it.

Wow, is that from Ua Pou to Rapa? 1100 miles and hit the tiniest bit of land going...

That's quite the photo of the not-sunk catamaran at the time of the rescue!

Indeed, found back in "Rapa iti" or "small rapa"

With a funny caption (google translated):

Their 12-meter catamaran sank quickly. It would therefore be this boat that was found off Rapa a few days ago, more than 7 years after the sinking.

It was sunk. It sank. Actually, it didn't sink. Sorry. Too many years grading papers, no enough beer.

Not speaking French at all - am I correct in guessing a whale hopped on it?

Ahhh, no. The photo is of course a stock photo showing a breaching whale in fairly close proximity to a yacht. The title of the article has the word collision in it.

It would be interesting to hear what damage was caused to necessitate a rescue though. Flooding of some sort, perhaps the hull was breached? ( yeah, that's a pun)
