45' - 40' tri's that are race-fast but you can cruise, too?

I like the Multi-50 class, but any tri anyone's knows about that are a bit smaller, but a racer/cruiser?

Condor 40. The first couple of these were stripped down lightweight OSTAR versions I believe. (Ferraris) The rest were mostly racer/cruisers and slightly heavier. (Corvettes). Lots of oneoffs from Crowther, Irens, and others. If it has a wide beam with skinny akas with only one touching the water at a time then it is probably wicked fast.

Sand Crab, I owned a Contour 50. Nice enough boat, but a bit heavy for what i was thinking about. What I really was looking for is a smaller version of a Multi-50. Some design that was built in the last five to seven years or so. Doesn't seem as though there is anything like that kind of boat out there. Too bad.

Corsair 37 Carbon, bit small - but light and fast

Pipe, That's a Condor 40 not Contour. A Condor will smoke the pants off just about anything except maybe a comparable Corsair or a few other customs. They were originally built as competition boats. And FWIW they are demountable like a Contour. Non recent though.

My Condor 40 is one of the lightest ever built (the first three built in house for the OSTAR) she has had a recent refit (2011)$30k,includes,new bimini,gorgeous sails,tramps,wiring,autopilot,etc. the compression post has been fixed ($3500) I believe this is a weak link on all C40's,stunning repair (original approx 30 laminates,now 130,some carbon). The weak original mast was 4lbs per foot off a 30' monohull and has been replaced. She is for sale for $67k but prefer a partnership on the east coast, I will offer a buy in/buy out either way. She is insured and currently lying in New Bern NC. There is a video on youtube under Condor partnership, notice in little wind she is flying a hull! I LOVE my Condor but own too many boats, I will also consider a lease. There is not a better deal in the US for a performance multihull. It is funny how casually people talk about how a Farrier 37 etc are such great boats when a $67k can give a similiar ride for $200k less. .....Just saying. 775 827 2786 PST

the 50ft is a Pogo 50 a very fast performance sailingboat. It was one of the first to arrive in the last ARC racing class.

It is only a 32ft but it is a class A boat with a small but nice cruising interior:

They have only a problem, at least for me, they are expensive...but that is just a question of having or not the money. Fantastic boats.

You are right -- but expensive is not the same as costly. I have owned 3 Dragonfly tris. A 920, a 1000, and my current one is a 1200. Each has held it's value. I owned the 920 for 5 years and sold it for more than I paid. I owned the 1000 for 3 years, and sold it for more than I paid. My current boat was 8 years old when I bought it for more than the original owner paid for it when new. (Largely due to the decline of the dollar vs. the Euro, and that new boats are much higher priced today in USD.) Based on recent sales I'm confident I could sell it without a loss.

TCO (Total Cost of Ownership) = purchase + operating + upgrades/maintenance - sale price.

I'm not saying you should "invest" in sailboats, but I'm saying Dragonfly boats hold value very well (if well maintained) because there is a demand for a performance tri that has a luxurious "yacht quality" interior finish, and there is NO OTHER production tri that fits that description.

Once you've sailed a tri, everything else is measured by that standard. Nothing sails better than a tri.

Only thing that comes to mind you may like are the Grainger Spoon Bays. Great boats but it will be a trip to Australia for you !

When I see an extreme mast rake like that I wonder if it's to correct a design mistake with weather or lee helm.
