Our 2002 was a Seawind 1000 - built long before the XL came out. We
sold it in 2018. We did have blister problems on one of the keels, but that was because we hit something and it split along a seam, and got
water inside. Remember the
keel on the 1000 is an external, completely-enclosed, sacraficial piece that is attached to the bottom of the
hull in a molding "indent". I wasn't aware of anyone having
hull osmosis issues, or
blisters.
The 1000 had metal thru-hulls - I think
bronze - for the
head intake and the black
water dump. The original purchaser had two thru-hulls added in the factory near the bows, that we used for air con and
watermaker. Those were both Marelon. Never any issues on those. But in 2019, the 1000 that we
sold started weeping from one of the
bronze thru hulls, and it had to be replaced.
The Lite thru hulls are all Marelon. It has an intake and release
thru hull for the
head. We also have a separate
thru hull for the air con, and one for the
watermaker. They are all Marelon, and were installed by the factory. To me, thru hulls weren't an issue. I guess I could have deleted one by tie-in the watermaker with the
toilet intake. But the air con was on the other side of the boat.
Finally, one of the Marelon valves did leak at the handle on day one of commissioning the Lite. Seawind arranged to have the boat pulled at the Hinkley yard in
Florida, and they replaced the entire assembly - including the thru-hull. I think Marelon requires the valve and matching thru hull be replaced to have a warranty.
