I think Seawind's design brief is a boat that can be cruised by a couple, and sails well in light air, among other things. They do not design boats for the charter market, although some are chartered.

Our boat has twin 25 hp high-thrust Yamaha outboards. At full tilt, it will push the boat around 8 knots. We don't tend to push them that hard. And we tend to sail a lot, as the boat moves very well in light air. (And the outboards retract.) We took delivery of our boat in Feb 2019, in Miami. A month commissioning, then did a run thru the Bahamas for four months, and then across the Gulf of Mexico back to Texas. Traveled 2800 nm; motors had 220 hrs on them.

I don't think any more or less expensive to maintain than any other 38 ft cat. Seawinds are well-built in my opinion, which is why we bought this second one. They tend to hold their value. Not a lot of used ones for sale in the US. The tri-fold door system opens up the saloon to cockpit and you get the feel of a huge covered living space. None of the Seawind models have rooftop steering stations, and although people talk about visibility issues thru the glass windows, that is typically from people who have never sailed on the boat. Galley down - people either like it or not. Seawind has really opened it up with the pass-thru above the cabinets. Ninety percent of the time, its just my wife and I cruising on our boat, and there's never that feeling of separation. Large windows below make everything feel open. And ventilation is excellent.

You are spot-on re: price. After transport to US, taxes, factory invoice, etc., I think our total is a little under $450k. We toured the factory in Vietnam to see our boat being built as well. It's an impressive operation. Downside to a Seawind is that most models are into a two-year wait, and some are over four years. And they are not easy to find on the used market.
Great information, to your knowledge have you ever heard of any problems with the hulls like osmosis or anything like that ? Another question, I would guess that the Seawind 1000 would have very few through hulls ? Was your seawind a 1000 or the 1000xl, and do you think it is a big factor in purchasing one ?

Our 2002 was a Seawind 1000 - built long before the XL came out. We sold it in 2018. We did have blister problems on one of the keels, but that was because we hit something and it split along a seam, and got water inside. Remember the keel on the 1000 is an external, completely-enclosed, sacraficial piece that is attached to the bottom of the hull in a molding "indent". I wasn't aware of anyone having hull osmosis issues, or blisters.

The 1000 had metal thru-hulls - I think bronze - for the head intake and the black water dump. The original purchaser had two thru-hulls added in the factory near the bows, that we used for air con and watermaker. Those were both Marelon. Never any issues on those. But in 2019, the 1000 that we sold started weeping from one of the bronze thru hulls, and it had to be replaced.

The Lite thru hulls are all Marelon. It has an intake and release thru hull for the head. We also have a separate thru hull for the air con, and one for the watermaker. They are all Marelon, and were installed by the factory. To me, thru hulls weren't an issue. I guess I could have deleted one by tie-in the watermaker with the toilet intake. But the air con was on the other side of the boat.

Finally, one of the Marelon valves did leak at the handle on day one of commissioning the Lite. Seawind arranged to have the boat pulled at the Hinkley yard in Florida, and they replaced the entire assembly - including the thru-hull. I think Marelon requires the valve and matching thru hull be replaced to have a warranty.
