Hi OP,
I just reserved my build slot for a new 1160 lite and live on the
east coast (Boston area). Also owned a 1160 deluxe for about a year, cruised it from FL back up to Boston for a sabattical.
I'v been looking at cats for a long time, comparing everything that sits in that 'small cat' size range of 38-42 feet, and have decided for my needs that the SW is just the best fit. I've chartered most of the other major brands (FP,
Lagoon,
Leopard at least), and the SW quality of build is much better. They are also just sail better - they have much lower freeboard, which reduces windage, fine entry, smaller hulls. This all makes them smaller volume
boats in comparison, but I found that only really mattered when you wanted to store the contents of your house on board. There's not a lot of
storage on the SW for anything large (think bikes,
wind surfers, etc).
I'm going back to a 1160 lite for a hopefully part-time
live-aboard, cruising up/down the
east coast, but being based in
New England area. Something that I don't plan on
living aboard full-time. I'm hoping that having the outboards is going to be useful in the crab-pot-dodging department, since if you wrap a line you can raise the
engine to detangle without having to dive under the boat. They are also much lighter with the outboards than the diesels, and you can really tell when sailing in light winds.
I think SW is the hands-down best option in the 38-40' category for multihulls (Prove me wrong!).
