Yanmar SD 60 saildrive

I have 2014 Beneteau Oceanis 41 with 240 hours. Clutch stated slipping. I had a yanmar mechanic out to look at it, who told me the obvious and I quote "the clutch is slipping". He is getting a price for me to replace the entire drive. I asked why not replace the clutch? He said it would be cheaper to replace the drive. Does anybody have any experience with this BS. Ty

Re: Yanmar SD 60 saildrive

Yikes.......suggest you go on the Yanmar web site. There is a section where you can send them technical questions which they answer quite promptly. My personal experience has been in getting a reply within 1-2 days. I do hope your mechanic is wrong, I have 2 SD-60's! If this is true wish I had kept my SD-50's with their troublesome cone bearing.
Good luck.
Please let us know the outcome.

Concerns over the Yanmar sail drives is why I ended up going with the Volvo engine and sail drive system. Pain really because I do like the Yanmar engines. I hope you have a good outcome, wouldnt this be covered by warranty ?
