Boat: So many boats to choose from. Would prefer something that is not an AWB, and that is beachable...

Yachts with the saloon at the rear...

There are a few interesting yachts out there that have the saloon at the back.
Boats like the Comar comet 11, the Cigale, or the Kelt 39.

Especially the Kelt 39 looks quite interesting.

It has the saloon in the back, with a double, transversal bunk behind that (that I suppose you'd only use when anchored).
Lifting keel, dries out vertically, some have a system that allows them to strike the mast, so that you can take inland waterways.
Two double cabins, head in the centreline, anchor chain brought aft, a nice forepeak.
And I would guess good access to the engine as well.

I've never been on a boat with such a layout though. Would this work at sea? what are your thoughts?

Re: Yachts with the saloon at the rear...

I've never sailed on any of those but visited a Cigal 14 on a boat show. It feels very ergonomic and secure. A fast dream cruiser for an active crew. But, if you like open spaces it doesn't have any. The aft salon is big but not spacious. If I could afford it I would give it a serious thought.
