Yacht rescue
What looks like a large Beneteau from which 4 crew have been rescued by a Portuguese vessel in the Atlantic somewhere to the East of the Windward islands, no motor and apparently without potable water for 10 days.
Seems their water maker could not be powered.???
Wonder if its one of the ARC boat's come to grief.

Re: Yacht rescue
Yikes.. And customers ask why I insist on having bottled water aboard!

Re: Yacht rescue
Been in a similar situation once but I just requested some water from a passing tanker and carried on.. no further assistance required.
Seems one of the crew was in a bad way so the boat was abandoned.
There was only a picture of the aft third of the boat.. dark blue hull, white topsides so no way of telling if the sails were still usable but she did not look in a bad state from what was visible.

Re: Yacht rescue
Wonder whether the owner has deep enough pockets to rescue his/her boat?
Hope the guy in bad shape doesn't have severe kidney damage.

Re: Yacht rescue
Just checked the list of entrants for the ARC 2022 and there are no Panama flagged boats listed..
Hope there's a follow up story to the event.

The article doesn't say they ran out of food after 10 days, it says that they had not eaten anything in 10 days. Still does mean that they planned poorly but big difference.

Re: Yacht rescue
"...enough provisions but ran out of water...went aboard weighing 90kg, now down to 60......"
"Why they ran out of water the shipwrecked sailor cannot answer..."

Re: Yacht rescue
from the tabloid:
"his 3 companions from Marocco were in a little bit a better shape. They seem to have plundered again & again the strictly rationed provisions"
(& in case somebody again objects to my use of the appelation "mountain -Kraut": I am one myself & therefore entitled to use the expression.)

Re: Yacht rescue
Without real facts, which seem to be scant at this time it's impossible to comment on what happened. Many TV reports are high on dram but short on facts.
In the mean time it's all conjecture.

Re: Yacht rescue
Based on other threads. Its most definitely the fault of the roller furling main sail..
