pirate Yacht grounded, rolled in surf..

Figuera entrance claims another victim..
A Belgian yacht (looks around 38ft) appears to have come unstuck approaching Fig da Foz entrance.. at present unsure of the cause, engine failure, fouled prop or getting the approach wrong and hitting bottom..
Whatever the cause the result was destruction.. she got caught by the current and bounced into the surf line and got rolled, mast gone, topsides battered and looks to be well filled with water as the surf breaks over and around her.
The couple on board were rescued and taken to hospital on stretchers, no info on state of health as yet.

Indeed, a devastating end to a voyage. I hope they're okay.

Yup.. You have to keep a good watch on the depth along that coast heading S.. seen less than 3 metres a few times when I've been over a kilometre from shore.. its always shifting.
Sounds like they came over the bar and went to follow the coast instead of making searoom first.

pirate Re: Yacht grounded, rolled in surf..

Some of the surf instructors use jet bikes and I believe these were active early in the rescue..
