Re: Why do you guys like monohulls so much?
trying to make it clear once more:
the RIGHT cat can be THE ideal bluewater-cruiser!
but:
1. not with our budget & requirements
2. of all the cats we saw on our last trip I cannot recall ONE that made me think "I wish we had that boat" (illustration attached...)

...& with 2 weeks 2 go till 65 I have to admit, that I fear a cat "getting away from me" much more than a mono...

And that’s why we have different types, models and sizes of boats, one type doesn’t fit all.
I enjoy a day sail on a well designed performance monohull but wouldn’t want one as a full time cruiser. Doesn’t mean I don’t like certain monohulls and it doesn’t mean I don’t think they make great cruising boats, just not for me.

So your telling me you would not want to sail the world on the black pearl ( if any of us could afford it) ?

And yes this is just for fun

Sorry, but your maths doesn't work

Re: Why do you guys like monohulls so much?
I like cats but there is also something great about barrelling along in a heavy cruising mono, maybe a fast reach when she's just plowing along shouldering aside tons and tons of water.
Of course I always forget just how comparatively difficult everything is just normal day to day functioning on a mono in a seaway but I guess that my next boat will probably be a mono for budgetary reasons.

RAN sailing got a 17 ton najad 440 in perfect condition with new glued teak decks for 120k euros. That kind of bargain is hard to ignore. So hard to justify something that cost 10 times more unless you are really just spending 10% of your net worth.

Remember sarcasm doesn't work to well in any mono vs multi hull threads

True
I love good cats as well but I am amazed at how well our 60 ft 70tonne ex trawler punches to windward - we outpoint everything
Waves hitting us on the beam actually bounce off and run back the other way.
