Why do monohulls have sails?

Old full keel monohulls don't point worth a crap especially the short ones with shallow draft. Mine has a 20' water line (19.75') and 4' draft

With the engine running just above idle, you can point way better. It comes in handy when you need to get somewhere and are on the clock.

If you aren't on the clock and have plenty of time, they sail fine.

Mine fits that description, however she does point better than a Lagoon 380 I don't know about the rest

I have a class C motorhome, not a Class A...

Should I try my asymmetric spin on it? That way I won't need a pole.

I _do_ have a old CQR I removed from my boat that does a fantastic job of holding the motorhome in place. It needs to be in "park" or the anchor won't work. Maybe I should try that on the boat? The mantus seems to hold pretty well with the boat transmission in neutral.

I also have a old IBM selectric I'm trying to turn into a radar, but not having much success so far.

No OP. The monos I sailed extensively, a sloop with full keel and a cutter with a full keel only two-feet deep, sailed wonderfully to windward. What's your problem?

Awww, c'mon Mark... a full keel cutter with a draft of two feet, and it sails 'wonderfully to windward"?? Doesn't seem possible to me...

Yes you are right, both threads were posted at about the same time, yours 2 days later than the other but my opinion remains, both are threads with a strong bias that goes mainly to the ones that created them.

Lots of misinformation on both of them mixed with good information but inflamatorie threads from the beginning, a bad idea, both of them.

Because they are much more interesting to me than power boats and I've owned both. I have no real need to go 20 knots anymore on a sailboat or powerboat.

When I say " on the clock ", I'm talking 2 days to 2 weeks as in coastal cruising on the weekends or vacations.

Sometimes if the wind and tide isn't right, I'll motor sail (or motor if there's no wind) a bit to get back on a Sunday or the last vacation day.

This weekend it looks like a Saturday only run along the beach with the wind 12 knots SW. Should be perfect with temps in the lower 70's.

I expect to see lots of sailboats......some sailing others motoring and enjoying the day
