Re: Which boat should I buy?
You should post this on the meet & greet forum. Welcome aboard!
BTW, someone else on this forum said something that really stuck with me. If you take all the advice on this forum to heart, then the only blue water cruiser you will end up with will be a steel sailboat with no windows, a chemical toilet, etc. In other words, with no thoughts of comfort whatsoever. Get the boat that your heart (as well as your survey & wallet) leads you to. There is no point in going out on the water if you don't enjoy it.

We had our first winter outside the tropics this year, and the moisture below decks from condensation, from breathing and cooking, and just air getting below the dew point has been a difficult problem for us, not sastisfactorily addressed.

Re: Which boat should I buy?
Thanks everyone, very good advice! I am in CT and will update my profile now. I may have gotten a little brainwashed on the “blue water issue”. I also may be solo for a bit so it will be 40 or under.

Exactly, I asked the question of a sailmaker friend when I was looking for a boat, he advised "You'll know when you find her, she will talk to you as soon as you see each other and stir your imagination". I followed that advice and we have had 20 happy years and adventures together with the family tagging along too.

Re: Which boat should I buy?
As you might have noticed, the term blue water draws some comments. Problem is, there is no standard, commonly agreed upon meaning for Bluewater. I have seen some call the 50 mile trip from Miami to Bimini blue water and others that consider the entire Caribbean as just more than day sailing.
Better to define what oceans and destinations are in your plans. Across the Pacific to Polynesia, US to the eastern Caribbean, across the Atlantic to the Med OR around the great capes via the roaring forties?

Yeah, I noticed that and it if fine. I understand everyone see’s things differently. My plan is too retire. Sail to Bermuda, then to Caribbean, and then onward to hopefully around the world but you never know where life will take you.

Lets get real. Would you buy a sportscar to haul building materials for a new house you were building or would you buy a dump truck to transport your family? Of course not on both questions. Likewise, boats are and should be use designed for their intended use and waters. Obviously you will get numerous opinions on this forum but the decision is yours.
How does two 100 gallon stainless steel fresh water tanks located amidships, two 75 gallon fiberglass diesel fuel tanks, a comfort ratio of 43.7, and a capsize ratio of 1.63 sound? I'm happy with my decision and you should be with yours...DO YOUR HOMEWORK! Beautiful is in the eye of the beholder but only skin deep, speed can be overrated.
Good luck.

Especially these days you never know. I'm not totally sure what I'll be doing next month, much less in six months or a year.
What boat you would want for around the world might differ somewhat depending on the route. Through the Panama Canal and following the Coconut milk run down the trade winds is very different than south around Cape Horn to the Pacific.

Definitely Panama and trade winds. Not around the horn.
