Where to sell a boat in the caribean

I want to sail my 30ft sailboat.
It’s now rio dulce,Guatemala but I fear its not the best place as it is hard to get there.
I wonder where is the best place to sale in the carbean?
Thankyou

flights.google.com and see which cities have direct flights to/from the U.S. outside of Miami. Bonus if Southwest flies there.

I did the boat search for a couple years and ended up buying in Martinique because at the time Norwegian Air had very cheap direct flights so it was easy for me to get down to look at it. Now it takes 3 flights, all day, and $1,000 to get to Martinique so probably wouldn't happen in the same situation. And you're right, I probably wouldn't have gone to Guatemala but I did go to Panama.

True, the Rio is not the most convenient place to get to, but boats do get bought and sold there.

A few years ago a friend of mine sold his boat on the Rio. He promoted it well and offered a $1,000 credit at closing to offset travel expenses. He also emphasized the fact that it was already in a great cruising area with Belize & the Bay Islands only a short sail away. Worked.

There are direct flights from the USA to nearby Roatan, there are marinas there to stow it, but dont know of any brokers to show it there.

True there is a small marina on Roatan, but no yacht brokers, that I know of. I would not go there to sell my boat.

Thumbs up Re: Where to sell a boat in the caribean

My immaculate Prout 45 catamaran based Bequia is up for sale this season. We have owned her since new (1997) and maintained her to a high standard.

I'm very realistic about the price of 20 year old boats however sound, so she will go at a highly competitive price of around US$140,000 for a non broker sale

We are in no hurry to sell, but if you are remotely interested, please email Richard at rroxactionbequia@gmail.com for a full spec.

Thanks . Richard Roxburgh

Re: Where to sell a boat in the caribean

From our experience, you need people traffic, ie, easy to get to (to see her) and reasonably priced transportation. Puerto Rico, as well as St Thomas, Tortola, St Martin, and a few of the other windward/leeward islands fit that bill. Rio Dolce, while a very nice place and with lots of craftsman capability as well, and a great hurricane hole... does not. Maybe Belize City (easy in and out), but I don't know of any marinas there. I'd say either down to Panama, or maybe Costa Rico(?), or I'd look to sail her east (likely a real upwind slog) to either Florida or the Virgin Islands (US or British) to make her accessible.
