Whatever you do don't get this boat just because it's free. Get it because you love it & be prepared to put a lot of blood, sweat & tears into it, not to mention a whole lot of money. Not trying to dissuade you, I think it could be a fine project as long as there are no significant structural issues, just think you should be prepared.

Well, on the upside, if this does turn out to be a "project boat" at least it sounds like you'll be restoring a boat with a good design. When I set off on our boat buying journey I was most worried that whatever I bought might be a fundamentally poor design. How bad it would be to carefully restore something only to find it sails like a bathtub. All the usual cautions about project boats aside, the restoration process can be a lot of fun too.

Let us know how it goes. As I'm in the area and will be purchasing a boat in the area (probably, toss up of there or La Paz) and doing a refit, I'm real curious on the buying process and local facilities/vendors.

I have not "restored" a boat but I've had 2 boats hauled for over a year each doing some major work on them. I actually loved it. Because the marina I hauled at allowed owners to work on their boats the mix of people was very interesting & I had a lot of fun swapping stories & hanging out when not working on the boats.

You're right. I couldn't tell at first cuz there is a bird aviary blocking the view.

Baja - Good luck with the restoration. These things are fueled by cash and time which are inversely correlated to derive completion date. At least you have a cool place to do it!
