What does it come with? Sails,
rigging in there somewhere? If not, and I am one who enjoys the idea of a good
project, I'd say you can't get there from here, considering what kind of boats you can buy that are already sailing, for not much cash. Are you a big fan of the Hurley 20? If so, then it could very well be worth it. Do you have the time, the energy, the tools, the space to
work and the cash to take this on, without causing you or your
family any stress? There are consignment shops where you can get used sails and other
gear. Old masts from salvaged boats can be found. If you don't mind scrounging around and you do not need new stuff, it may not be too bad, like $2000, to get her sailing, or less. I do things on the
cheap and you can find perfectly good things that just don't have the new
gear gloss on them. I got a
mainsail for my boat from Bacon Sails for $500 and it was like new. I've gotten good headsails under $500 too. If you don't need a lot of frills and stuff (and who does really?) it can be doable...
This boat was designed for gunkholing in shallow and relatively calm waters, which is great IMO, but is that what you want to do with her?
I don't know the Hurley 20, but I do know the Signet 20 (similar UK boat but without bilge keels) and she sure sailed great in fairly rough waters up and down the coast of California!
