Diesel Mechanic. Looks like a Universal
Diesel. Very reliable when properly taken care of. This may not have been. The heat ex-changer is what is missing, where the unconnected hose is lower back of
engine. #1 does the engine turnover manually when you attempt to do so from the Crankshaft Pulley? #2 Does the
oil look black and at normal level, (that is a good sign.) #3 If milky or high, then likely to have internal damage. #4 Check Trans fluid normal Height and red (that is a good sign). Overfilled or milky, likely internal damage.
Exhaust looks like it just got some attention. That portion of the pipe is not cooled and it is customary to wrap with heat shield, It insulates the heat to the pipe and does protect things around it.
Unless you are very handy with proper
repair techniques or
money you should probably pass. There is a lot of
work & $ there to bring it back to good operating condition. Yes that is just the engine and trans.
