pirate Re: Westsail 32 - Opinions Needed !

Back in the '60's when I was in the Navy and based in Portsmouth I was having a beer in the NAAFI Club when a Yank matelot wandered in and we got chatting... it was a Wensday night and pretty slow.. he started a conversation which to cut it short boiled down to.."Where's the chicks at..?"
So I told him it was the "Widow's Hop" down at the Locarno Ballroom that night and if he waited till I finished the beer I'd just ordered I'd ride him down on my bike as I was headed there myself...
This led onto tales of his Harley and the amazing cruising he'd done... so we get out to my chrome-plated Vespa 150 Sportique and he cracks up laughing and starts taking the piss... no.. I did not hit him...
But he sure did **** himself when I white-lined it down Commercial Road between double deckers and the rest... busy narrow old road back then...
Basically... it aint what you got... its what you are and how you use it...
Everythings faster than me... why rush. if there's no 'good reason'.

I just bought a Westsail 32 today!

Very Happy.

I've been searching for 4 or 5 years.

Congratulations, and welcome to a rather large fraternity. If you're still happy after writing the cheque, you made the right decision. If those pre-purchase doubts turn into an Oh Sh*t moment after you pays your dough then you know you made the wrong decison. Apparently you made the right one. Good on ya!

I own W32 #55. She is a factory finished custom Westsail, commissioned on Oct 24, 1972. She's older than me, has been been sailed across the atlantic and down to South America and back. She was very loved by her previous owners and I love her, too! She sails pretty well in the frustratingly light summer winds of the NE. (I have an amazing suit of sails). I think she has a very kindly motion underway. She is very comfy down below. The cockpit, though smaller than most, is still big enough to fit all your friends who really want to be there. And, she's got a great looking a$$!
The biggest negative to owning her is the constant crap I hear from people who perpetually sh*t on her and call her names. There's a guy at my marina who doesn't even know my name but he talks a lot of junk about my boat!! Very frustrating.
Here's my advice; know her pros and cons and accept her for what she is. She is a heavy displacement blue-water cruiser. If you can love her for what she is you will have a long and happy marriage.

Congratulations. I am envious. I remember the day I got my Westsail 32 in Humacao, Puerto Rico. It was a dream come true. Enjoy your awesome boat!
