Stuff happens really fast like that. An accidental gybe nearly took my wife's
head off, the mainsheet grabbed her by the neck and flung her across the
cockpit. Even around 10-15 knots, depending on the
boat, there can be plenty of stress on the rig to do some serious damage.
Glad you're okay. I just pulled a harbor patrolman out of the
water the other night. Another minute and the
boat would have crushed him against the
dock. The guy has twenty years of experience on that
dock, on that type of boat. Does the job every day.
