Re: Wauquiez Pretorian 35

This boat was at the top of my list and in my price range but I could not find a good one on the East Coast in US. I did fing a Hallbery Rassy 352 and I am very happy with it. I hope you find the one you want, it is a great boat.

He wants crazy cash for the boat. $89,000 I believe. Link below. There is only one photo here but he sent me 16 others, and they are all as good/clean.

Hal Roth sailed his Pretorian all over the place.
We now own Hal's boat and yes it's been all over the place. It has no sail drive, straight shaft and the traveller was moved onto the coach roof but no dodger (Hal didn't like them). We love the boat and it's built extremely well everywhere you look. Guess that's why Hal picked it for his last boat.

I guess like most things you get what you pay for. It is funny how the other Wauquiez are amazing values for their size, but the Pretorien is quite pricey for a 35 footer. I guess maybe it is a boat with a cult following.

Also I would like to add that I have nothing but praise for the Pretorien's ability to go upwind. I would say the boat sails to weather as well if not better than most of the moderate draft cruiser/racers I am intimately familiar with.

Re: Wauquiez Pretorian 35

As I mentioned before the P35 is a wonderful boat but $90,000 is really up there and at that price you have many other choices. I still stand by my opinion of its windward ability. I raced on 2 of these boats, both with good sails and we always got outpointed by similar racer cruisers( ie: C&C's)

Concerning the dodger issue, here's a photo from an ad for a Pretorien, showing a modified traveler location (plus a cute, well-protected horn):
